FEU Makati City soon to rise

Future site of FEU Makati at the old Zuellig Building, Makati City

FAR EASTERN UNIVERSITY is putting up a new campus in Makati City and has forged a deal to lease the old Zuellig Pharma building on Buendia Avenue corner Malugay Street from an Ayala-owned unit.

In a disclosure to the Philippine Stock Exchange, FEU said its board of directors had approved in a special meeting the opening of a branch within the country’s premier financial district.

FEU had entered into a lease agreement with Crans Montana Property Holdings Corp. for the Makati property.

FEU vice chair Aurelio Montinola III yesterday said the new campus at the site of the former Zuellig Pharma building might open next year.

A leading private non-sectarian university led by the Montinola family, FEU joins a growing number of educational institutions offering tertiary and graduate school units that have established presence in Makati. The city is already home to the Asian Institute of Management, Ateneo Professional Schools (in Rockwell Center and Salcedo Village), Asian Seminary of Christian Ministries (ASCM), Mapua Institute of Technology, Don Bosco Technical Institute, Assumption College, Our Lady of Guadalupe Minor Seminary, Asia Pacific College and the University of Makati.

FEU last year agreed to create the Far Eastern University-Silang Inc., which will manage an educational institution in the said municipality the newly-created subsidiary will have an authorized stock of P100 million. The Montinola family plans to offer college, elementary and high school education inside a 250-hectare subdivision, Metro Gate, in Silang, Cavite. The ground breaking ceremony of FEU Silang last January 23 was in line with the school's 81st founding anniversary. It is expected to open in June 2010.

FEU, founded in 1928, is composed of different institutes that offer specific courses: Arts and Sciences, Accounting, Business and Finance, Education, Architecture and Fine Arts, Law, and the Institute of Nursing.
