UE Warriors frustrates the Tamaraws

The University of the East Red Warriors halted FEU’s eight-game winning streak since the latter’s defeat against the Ateneo Blue Eagles last July 12 of the 72nd UAAP seniors basketball tournament with an 87-72 victory Sunday at the Araneta Coliseum. UE’s Pari Llagas, Paul Lee, and team captain Elmer Espiritu all came out with huge game and took advantage of FEU’s scrambling defense. Espiritu contributed 20 points, while Pari Llagas made a career-high 24 points and Paul Lee, 18 points including crucial 3-pointers.

Aldrech Ramos sealed the first half with a 3 point shot reducing the gap to 4 points (41-45) from a 13 points deficit, but during the succeeding quarters, the Tamaraws failed to stop the Warriors’ rampage while shooting miserably at 33.8 percentage.

Note: The Ateneo Blue Eagles formally grabbed the final four slot as they defeated the UST Growling Tigers in the earlier match (80-70)

Remaining games of the FEU Tamaraws:

August 27- against Adamson

August 29- against UP

September 5- against La Salle

September 12- against Ateneo
