UAAP 74 Opening Ceremonies

UAAP Season 74 is hosted by
Ateneo de Manila University
Over 12,000 students and athletes are expected to join the festivities today (July 9, 2011) at the Marikina Sports Complex. Rain or shine the event starts at exactly 4pm which will be aired live over Studio 23, free admission at the venue. University of Santo Tomas (UST) will have the largest contingent for the parade with 627 athletes, followed by University of the East with 512, University of the Philippines (UP) with 425, De La Salle University (DLSU) with 417, Adamson University (AdU) and Far Eastern University (FEU) with 300 and National University with 260.
PBA Cager Olsen Racela, one of Ateneo’s most successful products in the field of sports, will carry the torch and eventually light the cauldron to symbolize the opening of the season that will champion the theme "All Heart, All Out." Also among the highlights of the affair is the solemn entry of colors where Ateneo cadets will bring inside the sports facility a 60 feet x 30 feet flag.The Opening Ceremonies will end with a free concert as well featuring Spongecola, Itchy Worms, and Kjwan plus a fireworks display to cap the day. It will be the first time in recent memory that the opening will be held outside the Big Dome and no games will proceed thereafter. "We want to show  that there's more to the league than just basketball", says UAAP 74 President Ricky Palou. Basketball matches will start the next at the Araneta Coliseum with FEU facing La Salle at 1pm, while host Ateneo goes up against Adamson at 3pm. to be updated
