UAAP Volleyball 71: FEU's streak continues as they overpower UST

The FEU Lady Tamaraws crush UST Lady Tigers despite the pro-UST crowd (over 900 spectators) at the Arena in San Juan.

UST played a solid two sets. They were simply invincible in the first two sets as the Lady Tigers hammer out a 25-22 and another 25-22 victory. And it was all roses for UST as they needed just one more set to cut the juggular of FEU. But alas, it wasn't meant to be.

FEU standing proud like the Tamaraw that the school represents simply refused to lay down and die. Other teams would have just called it a night and just prepare for the next game.

The FEU Lady Tamaraws, with a heart of a champion, refused to be defeated anymore. FEU Coach Nestor Pamilar simply said to the FEU team, if you want to win, you can play together to win. And did FEU fight to win. FEU won the third set 25-20. And although UST still had momentum with needing only one more set, momentum was gaining for FEU. Then FEU won the fourth set in the closest of games 26-24. Thus forcing a rubber fifth do-or-die, winer take the game set.

FEU won the fifth set 18-16 and thus ending the almost two hour battle of attriction between two great volleyball teams in UAAP history.

FEU played one hell of a game with the one-two-three punch of Shaira Gonzales, Mecaila Irish May Morada and FEU superstar Rachel Ann Daquis.

The whole team piched in for the victory such as Cherry May Vivas, Monique Tiangco, and April Linor Jose.

On the UST Lady Tiger's side, it was one spectacular game by league statistical leader Aiza Maizo with ample support with other UST superstars like Judy Ann Caballejo and Bernice Abigail Co.

UST heavily dependent on Aiza Maizo on offense and defense, was simply unstoppable. But of course, FEU knew that would be UST's gameplan and prepared heavily on sharing the volleyball with thier other players that resulted in this total teamwork victory.

Special mention must go out to FEU's Rose Anne Taganas and Shaira Gonzales for having great digs that frustrated UST so bad.

April Linor Jose of FEU simply outplayed her counterpart from UST Rhea Dimaculangan.

It was such a heartbreaking loss for UST as after the second set, 80% of the people felt they will win. But of course, FEU knows that it takes three sets to win a match. Not two. And they just simply refused to crumble. So FEU deserves every bit of praise for the hard earned win. Probably more harder than any of their victories so far. Because they had to come back from two sets down to win it all.
