UAAP 73: Lady Archers may face forfeiture

UPDATE (01/19/11): The UAAP Board  on Wednesday, January 19 has meted out a one-game forfeiture from La Salle Lady Spikers’ unblemished record in the first round of Women’s Volleyball. Carmela Garbin and Clarisse Yeung have been disqualified to play for the rest of the season, together with UP’s Lorraine Chua and UE’s Alyssa Paril. All four players competed in the Vikings Cup hosted by the World Citi Colleges during the Christmas break. DLSU, however remained on top of the standings, 7-1.


La Salle Lady Archers faces forfeiture of four out of its seven wins (a sweep) in the first round of UAAP 73 Women’s Volleyball, as two if its bench players, namely Carmela Garbin and Clarisse Yeng were found to have joined another league – The WCC 3rd Viking Cup Open Invitational Volleyball Tournament, while the UAAP Season is ongoing. The UAAP Board will discuss the matter on Wednesday at its meeting, as such the UAAP schedule and standings would remain as it is pending resolution of the board.

Both UAAP and NCAA prohibits its players in all sports from competing in other tournaments for the duration of the season. Reportedly, the DLSU administration had already suspended the erring players. In the NCAA Women’s Volleyball, College of Saint Benilde players Arriane Yap and Janel Lim caused the disqualification of their team in the semifinals after joining the very same league, the two La Salle players have joined. NCAA Semifinalist Perpetual Help was also disqualified after its players Ronerry dela Cruz and April Ann Sartin competed in an inter-village meet.
