The FEU Men’s Chess team won its fifth straight UAAP crown and 12th overall. The Tamaraws blanked La Salle, 4-0 to seal their 5-peat victory Saturday at the FEU Technology Building. FEU accumulated 43 points, while University of Santo Tomas placed second with 35 points, and Adamson finished third with 26.5 points. FEU’s Sheider Nebato won his second straight Most Valuable Player award and teammate Lennon Hart Salgado was awarded Rookie of the Year. The team also won the jackpot prize in Eat Bulaga’s Pinoy Henyo after sweeping the first round eliminations last month.
Various innovations, like customized team cubicles and digital chess clocks were introduced this year by UAAP Chess host, Far Eastern University which earned raves from member schools. As such, FEU will be hosting the tournament again in season 74.
